Aimah Umrah

Takbeer-e-Tashreeq

Takbeer-e-Tashreeq is the specific glorification of Allah that Muslims are encouraged to recite after every obligatory (Fardh) prayer during a sacred period in the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah.

The Takbeer is as follows:

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallahu, Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil hamd
(Translation: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no deity but Allah. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest and all praise belongs to Allah.)

This takbeer is recited once after each fardh salah, starting from Fajr on 9th Dhul Hijjah to Asr on 13th Dhul Hijjah.

Why is Takbeer-e-Tashreeq Important?

This takbeer connects us with a major historical event: the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham, peace be upon him). He was commanded to sacrifice his son, and he submitted fully to the will of Allah. Allah, in His mercy, replaced the son with a ram.

These days are among the holiest days in Islam, especially for those performing Hajj. For Muslims not performing Hajj, remembering Allah through takbeer is highly recommended and brings great rewards.

This is based on a verse from the Quran:

“And remember Allah during the appointed days…” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:203)

Who Should Recite Takbeer-e-Tashreeq?

  • All adult Muslims, men and women, whether they are performing Hajj or not
  • Those praying in congregation (jama’at) or alone
  • It is also recited after missed (qadha) prayers if they fall during these five days

How to Practice It Daily

  • Keep the takbeer written or saved on your phone for easy access.
  • Some mosques recite it aloud, while others may do it silently. You can recite it individually even if others are not.
  • If you forget to recite it immediately after salah, it’s recommended to do it as soon as you remember, but not after leaving the prayer place or engaging in unrelated talk.

Common Questions from New Muslims

1. Do women also have to recite it?
Yes, it is Sunnah Mu’akkadah (strongly emphasised) for both men and women.

2. What if I miss a prayer?
If you make up a fardh prayer (qadha) during the Takbeer days, you should recite the takbeer after making it up.

3. Can I recite in English?
You may read the translation to understand, but the takbeer should be recited in Arabic, as that’s the form taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

4. Is it allowed to recite it loudly?
Men are encouraged to recite in a raised voice, especially in jama’at. Women should recite quietly.

Final Tips for Practising Muslims

  • Encourage your family to recite together.
  • Share reminders in your community or masjid WhatsApp groups.
  • Print or save a schedule to track your daily salah and takbeer.
